Nokia
doesnt allow specification of a
proxy
when creating
access point
for series 40 v2, v3 andv5 phones
(eg 5300, 5130 xpress music, 6500, 5200, 6131).
With this not available,
You will not be able to specify an ip or a port
to use with applications (eg opera mini, google maps, shmessenger)
that require internet connections.
Nokia does allow users to create a provisioning document
(which allows you to specify an access point, ip, port etc).
The s40 phones recognizes this configured settings in the file
and also allows java midlets to have access to its proxy. myprov.co.cc has come with a great innovation
that'll enable you create this file in just two steps.
1. Select a network
2. Specify Ip and port
("exept you take downloading the file as step 3, thats up to you"....lol)
Using the Created file
step1. Download the file to a computer or another device.
step 2. Push/Send the file.prov to your phone via bluetooth.
step 3. Your phone will recognize it as configuration settings and will prompt you to save it.
step 4. From Your phone menu, go to Settings >> Configuration >> Default Configuration Settings Change the default to the settings you just created.. also go to access point and select it as prefered access point. Then select the option "activate for all applications
step 5. Smile.....
Thats it
Important Note
I have been getting a few complain that the prov file isnt working
From my research, It is preferable you do not download the file with your default wap browser.
In most cases, the extension is changed.
(for example, from configuration.prov to configuration.EXT),
thereby making the file not recognize by your phone
Incase this happens, you may use a file manager application
like filexplorer or mobyexplorer to rename it back to .prov
